A Spectre In An Hourglass

PHOTOGRAPHER, EDITOR & MAKE UP:

Chichi Nyangoni
MODEL: Anais Westwick

On a cloudy winter afternoon here in Tāmaki Makaurau, Anais and I decided to do an impromptu photoshoot. With no creative plan or resources, we explored the theme of a medieval maiden and let creativity inspire and guide us. Thanks to Anais, the shoot was magical.

As a model, she brings life to any space and as a creative, her openness makes collaboration so effortless and fun. I'm proud to represent her, and together, we created "A Spectre In An Hourglass." (Making the most of this creative outlet; I also wrote a poem inspired by our shoot; our magazine and our year so far). This is our work.

A floating maiden with hands so bare.

But in her heart, there blooms a spark.

She speaks her message into the air;

Of the power of creation; bold and stark.

“Over yourself, the world and its ways?

Going through life aimlessly wandering?

I have the cure and I’ll share it with you.

You have it too, if you’re wondering.”

“The cure is in life,

the life you live."

“And sometimes death is a part of it.

Death to fear, death to doubt.

And a great death to comparison.

Through this death is life, a life creative abundantly.”

“So to yourself and unto others;

Be curious, be courageous, be kind.

You beautiful perfectly imperfect being;

You loved spectre in an hourglass."

“Now is your time; don’t be afraid.

Use your  life; use it to create.

Use it before the sand runs out.”
